Fire Compartmentation UK
Fire compartmentation protection helps to prevent the spread of fire through fire-resistant walls and floors. By compartmentalising a blaze using fire-rated partitions, barriers, doors and other techniques, the fire is sectioned into more manageable areas. By utilising this method of compartmentation in the event of a fire, this also provides time and clearer routes for means of escape; particularly if an escape route is separated from the rest of the premises. We also offer acoustic barriers using a range of materials, providing integrity and insulation between joists and other spaces. Our fire compartmentation services and fire barriers are designed to offer insulation and protection from both fire and smoke to floors and ceiling voids. FAQs
What is the main objective of fire compartmentation?
The main purpose of fire compartmentation is saving lives by preventing the spread of smoke and fire throughout the building. By dividing the building into self-contained compartments, we can also ensure that all escape routes remain clear and high-value or high-risk areas are protected.
Is fire compartmentation a legal requirement?
Fire compartmentation is part of the British Standards regulations. According to the legislation fire compartmentation is required for property protection purposes and also to limit the spread of fire and smoke throughout the building.
What does fire compartmentation consist of?
As part of the fire compartmentation process a building is divided to individual compartments to help mitigate fire risks. Each compartment is reinforced either by using fire-resistant coatings and materials or by installing fire-restricting measures such as cavity barriers or fire doors.
